U.S. Stocks in a Korean Brokerage Account Are Still Exposed to U.S. Estate Tax

2026.11.03

If your parents in Korea hold Apple or a U.S.-domiciled S&P 500 ETF through a Korean brokerage, those shares still count as U.S. property for estate tax purposes. Unless they are U.S. citizens, only $60,000 is exempt, and rates run up to 40%.
